The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has successfully completed rehabilitation and construction projects in two (2) high-traffic roads in the municipalities of Pastrana and Jaro, Leyte, enhancing mobility and boosting local productivity.
In Pastrana, road works were completed in Barangay Socsocon, along sections of the Sta. Fe-Pastrana-Dagami Road, which cover the reblocking of 113.47 square meters of portland concrete cement pavement (PCCP) and application of 712 meters of asphalt overlay.
The project also involved the provision of thermoplastic pavement markings to ensure the safety of motorists, thereby improving road visibility at night and during heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile in Baranagay Anibongon, Jaro, a 1.63-lane kilometer road was constructed, replacing the previous muddy, dusty, unpaved carriageway which hindered locals from safely going in and out of the community.
In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Region 8 Director Edgar B. Tabacon said that the completed projects aim to alleviate the travel burdens of approximately a thousand residents affected by unpaved and deteriorated roads.
“These projects provide locals safer, faster, and more convenient access to schools, government offices, healthcare facilities, commercial hubs, and other fundamental services that help enhance their quality of life,” said Director Tabacon.
Implemented by DPWH Leyte 2nd District Engineering Office, both projects were funded under the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA), with a combined cost of ₱26.24 million.
