The Department of Public Works and Highways has completed critical flood control structures along the upstream and downstream sections of the Apurawan River, Barangay Apurawan, Aborlan, Palawan, providing enhanced protection and improved living conditions for the local community.

In a report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, Regional Office IV-B Director Gerald A. Pacanan said that the projects involve the construction of revetment walls upstream and downstream of the river measuring 100.87 meters and 102.41 meters, respectively.

The flood control project also includes the construction of drainage systems, slope protection, and essential earthworks designed to regulate the water flow, thus minimizing the risk of soil erosion and overflow during heavy rains.

Implemented by DPWH - Palawan 3rd District Engineering Office, the project strengthens the river basin’s capacity to mitigate extensive flooding, enhancing the area’s resilience against natural disasters.

“Since the completion of these protective structures, residents in Barangay Apurawan have seen significant improvements in their business and livelihood activities, which now contributes to the overall economic productivity in Aborlan,” added Director Pacanan.

Funded under the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA), the flood control projects upstream and downstream of the Apurawan River were completed in the total amount of P34.74 Million.
