Road improvement works undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) now ensure safer and more convenient travel for motorists in the municipalities of Leon and Pavia, Iloilo Province.

DPWH Regional Office 6 Director Sanny Boy Oropel identified the completed road rehabilitation project along Junction Bancal-Leon-Antique Boundary Road traversing Barangays Anonang, Talacuan, and Tagsing in Leon.

“This road rehabilitation is necessary to extend the service life and restore the original designed functionality and safety of the sections that have deteriorated due to increased traffic volumes, environmental conditions, and aging infrastructure,” said Director Oropel.

The project activities involve earthworks, drainage, paved shoulders, sidewalks, and slope protection along a 1.6-lineal kilometer portion of the road.

Meanwhile, DPWH Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office has also finished the portland concrete cement paving of a 648-meter road in Barangay Balabag, Pavia.

Motorists and pedestrians in the barangay now benefit from the paved road as they no longer have to pass through potholes and other hazards that may cause accidents.

“These road upgrades provide far-flung communities in Leon and Pavia safer and unhampered access to basic services, transportation, and economic opportunities,” added Director Oropel.

The road rehabilitation and concreting projects were implemented in the amount of P55.9 million and P5.9 million, respectively.
