Riverside communities in Barangay Balimbing, Boac, Marinduque are now guaranteed heightened protection to their homes and properties following the completion of a flood control structure undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
In a report to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Regional Office IV-B Director Gerald A. Pacanan said that the completion of the revetment wall is a crucial measure to mitigate widespread flooding that has been displacing families and affecting the livelihood activities in the area.
“The newly-completed flood mitigation structure has been instrumental in augmenting economic recovery in Barangay Balimbing hampered by the extensive damages of perennial flooding, particularly to the livestock and crops, which are the main source of income of the residents, resulting in financial losses for many years,” added Director Pacanan.
Implemented by DPWH Marinduque District Engineering Office, the 529-lineal meter flood control structure with steel sheet piles and other safety components reinforcing the capacity and resiliency of the structure against bad weather conditions.
The flood control project in Barangay Balimbing, amounting to P87.8 million was funded under the General Appropriations Act of 2024, and was completed ahead of the December 15, 2024 schedule.
