The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has recently completed two (2) farm-to-market roads (FMRs), significantly improving agriculture trade in the municipalities of Magsaysay and Sablayan, thus stimulating economic productivity in Occidental Mindoro.
In Barangay Purnaga, Magsaysay, a two (2)-lane 1.61-kilometer road project was completed, amounting to P19.79 million, that now provides an all-weather road, promoting more efficient and smoother delivery of farm produce to the market centers in its adjacent areas.
Based on the report to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Region IV-B Director Gerald A. Pacanan said that the newly paved road, integrated with solar street lights, is pivotal in supporting the residents and farmers daily activities, particularly in ensuring road safety and improving access to essential services for the local community.
Additionally, a 608-lineal meter roadway constructed in Sitio Marabong, Barangay Batong Buhay, Sablayan, amounting to P14.84 million, now serves as an essential transportation link, alleviating the challenges and inconveniences caused by the old unpaved road, hence accelerating the agri activities in the area.
Both road projects also involve the construction of paved shoulders on both sides and stone masonry line canals to ensure resilient and sustainable roadways surrounded by expansive agricultural lands.
“The completion of these road concreting projects by the DPWH Mindoro Occidental District Engineering Office is anticipated to increase more economic opportunities and developments, improving the living conditions in the rural areas of Occidental Mindoro,” added Director Pacanan.
