Residents and travellers in San Pablo City, Laguna, can now enjoy a smoother and safer driving experience with the completion of the preventive maintenance project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) along the Manila South Road (MSR) passing the Poblacion Road.

DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, citing a report from DPWH Region 4A Director Jovel G. Mendoza, said that the road maintenance project focused on the rehabilitation and improvement of the 1.164-kilometer four (4)-lane stretch of the Manila South Road, which traverses Barangays San Roque, V-A, and San Rafael, San Pablo City, Laguna.

Prior to the rehabilitation, the MSR passing Poblacion Road, a primary road in Laguna Province with a width ranging from 16.10 meters to 19.50 meters, urgently needed repair due to numerous potholes and deteriorating asphalt, and inadequate drainage facilities that compromised the safety of motorists and pedestrians.

The project involves resurfacing the road with bituminous concrete surface binder and wearing courses, improving the drainage system to prevent flooding, and installing reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings to enhance road safety and visibility.

“The rehabilitated Manila South Road passing Poblacion Road is expected to facilitate safer and more efficient transportation for residents of San Pablo City and travellers across Laguna Province and nearby municipalities,” said Director Medoza.

Implemented by the DPWH Laguna Third District Engineering Office, the preventive maintenance project along the Manila South Road (MSR) passing Poblacion Road in San Pablo City, Laguna was completed in the amount of P60.8 million, funded under the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
