Residents may now feel more secure against the risks of flooding and erosion due to the improved riverbank protection completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Barangay Cataning, Hermosa, Province of Bataan.

The completed flood control project amounting to P48.9-million, funded under the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA), involved constructing 400 linear meters of concrete slope protection along the Hermosa River.

In a report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Region 3 Director Roseller A. Tolentino stated that the project aims to strengthen the stability of riverbank system and erosion control causing siltation, by maintaining the large capacity of water flowing along the channel.

“This project will improve water flow by keeping the river channel clear and preventing blockages caused by eroded materials, thereby protecting nearby residences and farmlands from being destroyed,” said Director Tolentino.

The flood control structure was implemented by the Bataan 1st District Engineering Office.
