Residents near the Alaminos River in San Jose, Alaminos City, Pangasinan, are now protected from the threats of flooding with the completion of a river structure project by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

In an update to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel M. Tan said that the completed flood control project, stretching 494.2-lineal meter, now promotes economic stability and enhances the overall living standards of the residents in Barangay San Jose.

Barangay San Jose is located near several bodies of water, including the Alaminos River and the Hundred Islands National Park, putting the area at risk for flooding when heavy rains occur.

The completed project reduces flood-related damages to properties and infrastructure, a perennial issue faced by the community posed by excessive rains and rising river water levels.

Moreover, the initiative underscores the efforts of the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in safeguarding vulnerable communities in the country.

The P96.5-million slope protection was implemented by DPWH Pangasinan 1st District Engineering Office headed by District Engineer Marieta B. Mendoza under the FY 2024 Regular Infrastructure Program.
