As part of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. administration’s commitment in building climate-resilient infrastructure under the Build Better More program, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a flood mitigation structure along section of Calawis River in Antipolo City, Rizal.
The Calawis River, known for its winding nature, has long been vulnerable to erosion, bank collapse, and sediment buildup, often leading to overflow and flooding during heavy rains.
DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, citing a report from DPWH Region IV-A Director Jovel G. Mendoza, said that the P48.7 million revetment structure in Barangay Calawis addresses these long-standing issues.
The project involves the construction of an 869.70-linear-meter embankment along the Calawis River with a height of 5 meters, which is designed to stabilize riverbanks, prevent erosion and landslides, and improve water flow.
“With the completion of this flood control project, residents of Barangay Calawis can now look forward to greater protection from the impacts of severe weather and flooding,” said Director Mendoza.
Implemented by the DPWH Rizal 1st District Engineering Office, the flood control project along the Calawis River was funded under the 2024 DPWH Regular Infrastructure Program.
