The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has successfully completed Phase 2 of its farm-to-market road project in Magalang, Pampanga – further improving connection and trade between the agricultural barangays of Balitucan and Turu.
The latest development follows the successful completion of Phase 1 in August 2024 by the DPWH Pampanga 3rd District Engineering Office, which involved the construction of a 1.092-kilometer, 6-meter wide concrete road, to facilitate 2-way access for local farmers and residents.
In the Phase 2, as reported to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan by Region 3 Director Roseller A. Tolentino, the road network was extended with additional 1.274-kilometer concrete road, complete with two 7-meter reinforced concrete pipe culverts and 17 meters of slope protection.
“Before the project, transporting agricultural goods was difficult and time-consuming due to poor road conditions. Now, the new Barangay Balitucan-Turu farm-to-market road significantly improves travel efficiency, safety, and access—boosting local income and stimulating economic activity,” Director Tolentino said.
“This is in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive to enhance rural infrastructure as part of efforts to strengthen agricultural food security, which is a key pillar of the “Bagong Pilipinas” brand of governance,” Director Tolentino added.
