As part of the Build Better More Program under the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is making notable progress on the improvement of the Dumabato Bridge along Dumabato-Balligui Road in Barangay Dumabato Norte, Maddela, Quirino.

DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, citing a report from DPWH Region II Director Mathias L. Malenab, announced that phase 2 of the bridge replacement and strengthening project has reached 83.61 percent completion. The project is on track for its targeted completion in June 2025.

The on-going project involves the construction of a three-span, four-lane, pre-stressed concrete girder bridge stretching 90 meters. It includes two abutments with flood control features, four piers, reinforced concrete railings, asphalt overlay, and the installation of 40 solar panel lights and retroreflective pavement markings.

Once completed, the upgraded Dumabato Bridge will meet the capacity and safety requirements of the four (4)-lane Dumabato-Balligui Road—an important alternate route to the Cordon-Aurora Road.

“The project will enhance connectivity to the Junction Victoria–Maddela–Kasibu Road, significantly reducing travel time and enabling local entrepreneurs and small businesses to transport their goods more efficiently to trade centers in Maddela and Aglipay,” said Director Malenab.

The project is being implemented by the DPWH Quirino District Engineering Office with total funding of P192.99 million from the 2023 and 2024 General Appropriations Act.
