The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has taken a significant step in bolstering flood control and road safety in Davao de Oro, with the completion of a 3.48-kilometer flood mitigation structure across the Bangoy Bridge section in Barangay San Roque, municipality of New Bataan.
In a report submitted to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Regional Office 11 Director Juby B. Cordon said that the flood control project situated along the Kalamokan Creek leading to the Agusan River is a strategic intervention to alleviate flooding that disrupts access to the major highway, compromising the safety of residents and motorists in the area.
“The completion of this project will significantly improve economic activities in New Bataan, enhancing the movement of goods and access to essential services by minimizing travel disruptions, and protecting communities against flooding that has been a longstanding problem in parts of Davao de Oro,” said Director Cordon.
“This improvement is part of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.’s vision of “Bagong Pilipinas” under the “Build Better More” program,” added Director Cordon.
The flood control project divided into three (3) sections is installed with reinforced concrete revetment, grouted riprap, and minor drainage on identified areas to ensure safety and maintain the structural integrity of the revetment wall to withstand extreme weather conditions.
Implemented by DPWH Davao de Oro 2nd District Engineering Office, the flood control project in Barangay San Roque amounting to P144.74 Million is funded under the General Appropriations Act of 2024.
