
As of 8 AM, February 14, 2018, two (2) road sections in Eastern Samar are closed to vehicular traffic due to flooding and landslide brought by Tropical Storm “Basyang”.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 8 identified impassable road sections as:
1) Wright-Taft-Borongan Road in Barangay San Pablo to Barangay Mabuhay, Taft and at Malinao Binaloan Road due to flooding; and
2) Borongan-Guiuan Road in Barangay Pinasuan, General MacArthur and Barangay Cancelides, Hernani due to landslide and in Barangay Binalay, General MacArthur due to flooding.
Flooding was also observed along Jct. Buenavista-Lawaan-Marabut Road in Barangay Tinago, Quipondan but the road is safe for travel.
DPWH Region 8 Director Edgar B. Tabacon said field men and heavy equipment were deployed to clear affected roads.
Meanwhile, previously closed road due to landslide in Barangay Paya, Giporlos was already cleared and reopened to motorists.
Director Tabacon ensured that DPWH maintenance teams are continuously monitoring national roads affected by landslide and flooding.
