Motorists are advised that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will implement major rehabilitation along the northbound direction of Roxas Boulevard beginning at 10:00 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2020.
In his report to DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar, DPWH South Manila District Engineer Mikunug D. Macud said that clearance for the 180-calendar days road reblocking and repair works schedule was secured from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to be conducted along a kilometer-long intermittent portion of the four (4) northbound lanes of Roxas Boulevard.
“Tonight, we will begin repair along portions of the outermost northbound lanes of Roxas Boulevard, starting at the 50 meters from EDSA in Pasay side, and another 50 meters from P. Ocampo Street in Manila side,” said DE Macud.
“Roxas Boulevard is a 5.45-kilometer national road that serves as a major route of heavy vehicles daily particularly trucks going in and out of Manila Ports. That’s why its foundation deteriorates faster than regular roads, hence the need for rehabilitation,” said DE Macud.
The rehabilitation initially received an allocation of P20 million to cover the 530-meter portion from EDSA to before Libertad and another P40 million for the 500-meter section from Ocampo Street to before Quirino Avenue. The repairs cover excavation of old road, road concreting, with drainage improvement and traffic management component.
District Engineer Macud said that once repair of initial portions are completed, same activities will be undertaken along the remaining sections of the northbound lanes as well as the entire 4-lane southbound direction.
