A total of 1,482 road maintenance workers of the Department of Public Works and Highways-National Capital Region are now entitled to a Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Membership Insurance.
DPWH Secretary Roger G. Mercado made the announcement, citing a report from DPWH Senior Undersecretary Rafael C. Yabut and DPWH National Capital Region Director Nomer Abel P. Canlas who led the turnover of accident insurance policy cards to the roadside workers.
“This program was launched given that the nature of work of our roadside workers, Anti-Truck Overloading Mobile Enforcement (ATOME) personnel, and other maintenance crew entails constant hazards to safety,” said Secretary Mercado.
The initiative of DPWH-NCR Director Canlas is strongly supported by Secretary Mercado who emphasized the need to prepare for life’s unexpected occurrences and emergencies, especially with the ongoing highway Clean and Green program in NCR.
With the insurance, road maintenance workers are now entitled to accidental death, disablement, and dismemberment reimbursement up to P35,000; accidental medical reimbursement up to P5,000; accidental burial reimbursement up to P5,000; and daily hospital allowance of P150 per day up to 60 days.
Director Canlas plans to expand the current membership to give more benefits to NCR maintenance workers; and to include all personnel of the Regional Office and the DEOs.
