Farmers in the uplands of Alimodian, Central Iloilo need not walk miles from farms to the market as they now benefit from a new concrete road implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office.

The new 1.358-kilometer road in Barangay Manasa provides an alternate route to “Seven Cities” which is composed of seven organic vegetable-producing barangays in the municipality of Alimodian.

“This concrete road offers vital road contribution towards economic development and growth in the highlands of Alimodian and neighboring towns as it facilitates hastened delivery of vegetables and other agricultural products,” said DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie D. Bueno.

The road project will also boost tourism development in Central Iloilo as it provides locals and visitors better access to agri-tourism sites such as Bucari Pine Forest and Waterfalls located in the town of Leon, which is dubbed as the “Little Baguio of Iloilo”.

Funded under the FY 2020 Local Infrastructure Program (LIP), the P75.25-million road project is divided into two (2) sections.

Section 1 covers the concreting of 740-lineal meter portland concrete cement pavement (PCCP) while section 2 comprises the construction of 618-lineal meter PCCP and 60-meter pre-stressed concrete girder (PSCG) bridge.
