San Juanico Bridge in Leyte Undergoes Rehabilitation

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is carrying out repair works on the picturesque San Juanico Bridge, which connects the islands of Leyte and Samar, in an effort to maintain its structural integrity.

Based on a report submitted by DPWH Region 8 Director Allan S. Borromeo, Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan said that the rehabilitation works which cost P84.7 Million, involve tightening of high-tension bolts and painting works on structural steel.

Construction of two (2) more road lanes for the Arterial Road (Plaridel) Bypass Project in the Province of Bulacan are in motion towards the increasing of traffic performance and road capacity.

Bonoan, said that two (2) contractors are working at the same time on the widening from two (2) lanes to four (4) lanes for the ultimate stage of the 23.36-kilometer Arterial Road (Plaridel) Bypass Project to reduce congestion and improve safety and mobility.

Cadio River Control Safeguards Communities in Capiz

A flood control structure recently completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) now ensures the safety of flood-prone communities along Panay River in the municipality of Panitan, Capiz.

According to DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie D. Bueno, the river control structure will provide inland protection and help mitigate major flooding not only in Panitan, but also in the neighboring municipality of Pontevedra.

The 388.4 lineal meter project consists of revetment with headwall, constructed along the shores of Panay River that crosses through Barangay Cadio.

Officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Department of Finance (DOF), and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) mission group held a fact-finding meeting for the planned Parañaque Spillway Project in a bid to protect low-lying communities in Metro Manila from massive flooding.

Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan said that flood damage in the Laguna lakeshore area during rainy season and due to the effects of climate change is a situation that could not be further ignored.

DPWH Flood Mitigation Structures Safeguard Aklan Towns

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed five (5) flood control projects along Aklan River which now serve as defenses against flooding and erosion of river banks in the flood-prone towns of Lezo, Kalibo, and Madalag.

DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie D. Bueno explained that new structures will benefit Aklanons, particularly low-lying communities residing along or near the rivers, especially amidst the rainy season.
