Revetment Wall Ensures Safety of Coastal Communities in Ajuy, Iloilo

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of a flood control structure to boost community safety and mitigate water overflow in the municipality of Ajuy, Iloilo.

According to DPWH Region 6 Director Sanny Boy Oropel, the project involved the construction of a 240-meter revetment wall consisting of geotextile geotube with concrete wave deflector, reinforced concrete carriageway, grouted riprap, and hand laid rock embankment.

It also includes the installation of solar LED lights for better visibility, especially during nighttime.

DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, citing a report from DPWH Regional Office 4A, said that the project’s Package 7 was recently completed covering 1.22 kilometers of road.

Package 7 is located in Barangay Mayao Parada, Lucena City and was funded under the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA) with a contract amount of P93.6 million.

Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, citing a report from the DPWH Bureau of Maintenance (BOM) said that a portion of Kennon Road, at K0223+020, Sitio Camp 2 Barangay Twin Peaks, Tuba, Benguet has been closed due to road slip.

The Banaue-Hungduan-Benguet Boundary Road in Ap-Apid, Tinoc, Ifugao, was also closed due to soil collapse.

In a report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Regional Office 5 Director Virgilio C. Eduarte said that a 320-meter flood-control project was implemented to shield a populated area of Barangay Tabi from the destructive impact of seasonal flooding.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently completed the construction of a road slope protection structure to safeguard motorists and pedestrians from destructive effects of flooding and landslides in Barangay Imelda, Baybay, Leyte Province.

The project involved the construction of a 92-meter slope protection with 165 lineal meters of lined canal, reconstruction of 180-lineal meter road, and other engineering measures designed to convert and manage excessive water during heavy rainfall that causes soil erosion and increases risk of landslides.
