DPWH Improves Connection to Cement Industry in La Union

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a new, sturdier bridge leading to the booming cement industry in Bacnotan, La Union.

In his report to Secretary Mark A. Villar, Regional Office 1 Director Ronnel M. Tan said that they have finished the replacement of the old Ballogo Bridge along Bitalag-Quirino Road in Barangay Ballogo.

“With a better connection along Manila North Road, this two (2)-lane Ballogo Bridge is expected to serve some 42,000 residents of Bacnotan relying on improved infrastructure,” reported Director Tan.

DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said that at 86 percent and with just a few more days to fully complete the new Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge, we are mindful that a single case of COVID-19 in the project can lead to an interruption, if not total work stoppage.

DPWH Issues Revised Construction Safety Guidelines; Prohibits Small-Scale Projects to Operate in ECQ, MECQ areas

A new set of construction safety guidelines is now in effect for the implementation of public and private infrastructure projects pursuant to the latest announcement to place the Greater Metro Manila Area back to Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ).

Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark A. Villar issued the new Department Order #30 which follows recommendations from the IATF and other relevant government agencies while balancing economic growth through infrastructure development with public health and safety.

Villar on Sunday, March 28, 2021 announced that there are enough COVID-19 isolation beds nationwide, although occupancy of beds in quarantine facilities in the National Capital Region (NCR) is now at 64.48% percent with the increasing COVID-19 cases in the region.

“To date, only 19,877 beds from our 131,517 total available isolation beds of existing Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facilities (TTMF) nationwide are utilized,” said Secretary Villar.

Villar: Skyway Extension Soon to Improve South and North Connection

The on-going extension of Skyway from main line toll plaza in Sucat, Parañaque farther down South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) in Susana Heights near the Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway will facilitate faster trips to and from Southern Luzon to Metro Manila, Central and Northern Luzon.

Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark A. Villar expressed optimism that despite the NCR Plus was placed under Enhanced Community Quarantine, the construction of 3.9-kilometer Sucat-Alabang Skyway Extension Project can be completed soon to provide convenient travel to motorists.

Farmers and residents of Barangay Bulawan, in Payao Town, Zamboanga Sibugay now have better mobility and access to basic social services with the completion of the farm-to-market road (FMR) project implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Citing a report from DPWH Region 9 Director Cayamombao D. Dia, DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the road rehabilitation project includes the concreting of once dusty and bumpy one (1) lane road with a length of 1.781 kilometer into a two (2) lane concrete paved carriageway.
