DPWH 6 Publication, RPIO Recognized by PIA

The WV BUILDERS NEWS, the official publication of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 6 was awarded as Best Agency/LGU Newsletter (second place) for 2016 by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Region 6.

The said award, which includes certificate of recognition and a trophy was given during the Information Officers’ Year-end Conference and Awards 2016 last December 2 at the Iloilo Grand Hotel, Iloilo City.

P13.7M School Building Completed

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office IX in coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd) turned over the newly completed 3-storey 9 classroom school building to Catalina Vda. De Jalon Memorial School in Tumaga, Zamboanga City.

The additional educational facility promises to create a conducive learning atmosphere to the 4,092 students enrolled at the elementary school by decongesting the current 1:39 student-classroom ratio.

DPWH Alleviates Flooding in Isabela

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) remains proactive in its bid to lessen the damages brought by perennial flooding in Iligan, Isabela through the implementation of the Baculud Flood Control Project.

A flood control structure comprised of bored piles and sheet piles was constructed with reinforced rubble concrete and a cemented pavement with line canal to prevent the inflow of water and reduce the risk of flooding especially during rainy season.

Upgraded Road in Panitan, Capiz Answers Transportation Woes

The then flooded road section along Roxas City Boundary-Panitan-Bailan Road, Brgy. Agkilo in Panitan, Capiz, is currently being upgraded by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office VI, hence, would bring travel convenience to motorists, when completed.

The said project is implemented and supervised by the Regional Office headed by Regional Director Wenceslao M. Leaño and Assistant Regional Director Jose Al V. Fruto.

SPMS Orientation-Workshop Concluded

Three batches of DPWH Regional Office X employees attended the orientation for Strategic Performance Management System (SPMS).

The resource speakers for the orientation-workshop included Atty. Mary Therese P. Quizo of the Administrative Division, John Henri P. De Veyra from the Personnel and Engr. Sabeniano Caliao Jr. from the Quality Assurance and Hydrology Division (QAHD).

The reason of the training is for the employees to deeply appreciate the four stages of the DPWH SPMS, the forms used, the processes and roles.

DPWH Paints for Habitat for Humanity

Officials and employees of Department of Public Works and Highways took the paint brushes and rollers to add colour to houses at Navotas Relocation Site, Barangay Tanza, Navotas City for its Juan Brigade Outreach Program.

Secretary Rogelio L. Singson together with some 300 other DPWH volunteers painted a total of fifty five (55) housing units as part of the agency’s community engagement and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities.

Armed with paint rollers and brushes, volunteers from the Department of Public Works and Highways led by Secretary Rogelio L. Singson add colour to homes at Navotas Relocation Site in Sampaguita Dulo, Barangay Tanza, Navotas City. Aside from the house painting activity in collaboration with the Habitat for Humanity Philippines’ Volunteer Program, DPWH shared the spirit of Christmas by turning over to Habitat for Humanity Philippines cash donations and schooling materials to the community.

Building A Legacy for the Comvaleño Youth

The quality of education is not only measured by the varying teaching methods and techniques, it can also be seen in the quality of learning facilities provided for students. Having a conducive learning environment is essential in the learning process. This is where the role of the DPWH in ensuring the quality of infrastructure facilities becomes very relevant.

Through the years, building quality classrooms and school buildings has been a priority for the Department and this has also been one focus of DPWH-Compostela Valley District Engineering Office for the year 2015.
