DPWH-6 joins Women’s Month Celebration

In observance of International Women’s Month, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office 6 kicked-off its month-long celebration by distributing customized pins and tokens to all women during the Monday flag raising ceremony.

By virtue of Republic Act 6949 series of 1990, March 8 of every year is declared as National Women’s Day, while Proclamation No. 227 series of 1998 encourages the observance of March as “Women’s Role in History Month.”

DPWH completes road leading to Dumangas Ro-Ro Port

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the paving of 2.293-kilometer road from Poblacion Barotac Nuevoto to Barangay Acuit Road in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo costing ₱48.998 million.

According to DPWH Region 6 Director Wenceslao M. Leaño Jr., the project involves a 2-lane road with a pavement width of 6.70 meters and thickness of 280 millimeters, including drainage system, slope protection and pavement markings.

DPWH completes new catchwall to protect motorists against landslides in Samar

New and sturdy catchwalls completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will now protect the daily traffic along Caglanipao National Road in Barangay Cagmanipis and Barangay Caglanipao Sur in Tinambacan District, Samar.

Based on a report submitted by DPWH-Samar 1st District Engineer Alvin A. Ignacio to DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar, the road is surrounded by unstable mountainous terrain which causes landslides and rockfalls that endanger a huge number of motorists, especially during rainy and typhoon season.

Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark A. Villar commended DPWH Regional Office 9 for successfully completing seven (7) flood mitigation projects in flood-prone municipalities in Zamboanga del Sur.

Secretary Villar said that DPWH Regional Office 9, under the leadership of Regional Director Cayamombao Dia, has constructed in 2018 P137-million flood mitigation projects intended to protect residents of the seven (7) flood-prone areas in Zamboanga del Sur, namely: Dumingag, Labangan, Mahayag, Midsalip, Molave, Ramon Magsaysay, and Tambulig.

DPWH completes new school buildings in Leyte and Biliran

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed new classrooms for five (5) schools in Leyte and Biliran in Eastern Visayas Region.

DPWH together with local government officials of the Provinces of Leyte and Biliran recently led the turn over ceremonies for the school buildings implemented through the Basic Education Facilities Fund, a convergence program between DPWH and Department of Education (DepEd).

DPWH completes 2 flood control structures in Samar

Two (2) flood control structures that will protect lives and properties from the abrupt rising of water along Tinambacan River, Calbayog City, Samar were completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

According to DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar, the two (2) flood control structures with a total allocation of P90-million were constructed at the upstream portion of the river in Barangay Tinambacan Sur, Calbayog City which include the 145 lineal meters revetment complemented by a 33-lineal meter drainage and a 634-lineal meter structure on the other riverbank side.
